Couples have Valentine’s Day but singletons also have a day all to themselves – November 11 or 11.11. What better day is there to represent the single life than four ones in a row? Introduced by Alibaba back in 2009 the day’s known as the massive shopping craze for “singles”. After all, who needs a relationship when there’s shopping?
In essence, it is a form of Black Friday, this sale was a godsend for many online retail services that would have a massive gap between National Day and Chinese New Year. However, the most important part was that the consumers loved it and every year since people have been cashing-in.
While most of us have been scammed at least once with online shopping, hoping to snag a great deal but ending up with a dud. Fret not, the government's got our back. They passed a law that imposes a heavy fine to online retailers with false advertising on their products. The cleanup will also affect those sneaky sellers that delete negative reviews and they’re subject to fines of up to ¥200,000.
It’s good to finally hear that finally, consumers get some payback from all those dead-end searches and pesky scams. With the law on the consumer’s side we can all shop a little bit safer, however never let your guard down and be careful this weekend. Happy Double 11 to everyone.
