James Liu | Givology.org

**Givology is an internet community where individual donors give to students or projects related to education in rural China. Tell us more about the mission.** Donors can browse student’s profiles and donate directly to specific projects. We hope to change the way that education is being funded, especially in developing nations, and make it easier and more transparent. **Givology was started in the U.S. at the University of Pennsylvania. Why focus on education in China and donors in Beijing?** Here’s a statistic: 70 percent of students in major cities go to college and only five percent from rural areas do. The expatriate community doesn’t have direct influence on the government or even a full understanding of the policy decisions, but there’s a very large expat community here in Beijing and we have the opportunity to make a difference. **What are your future plans?** We have a staff of over 50, partners in Africa and southeast Asia. Our 2009 goal is to have 200 registered users and raise USD 3,500. Compared to those huge-name non-profits we’re really small, but we have high aspirations.
