We love some seriously deserve down time, and a trip to Hummingbird is just that. Whether it’s for a little self-indulgence or for some much-needed manis and pedis, Hummingbird and their reasonable prices remain pretty high on our list of favorites.
We recently paid a little visit to their Central Park location while trying to find a decent reprieve from the Beijing heat. Walking in hot and sweaty, we were greeted by a group of friendly staff who, before asking anything about treatments, came over with a nice glass of ice water. The thoughtfulness was much, much appreciated.
While some treatments are designed with medicinal benefits in mind, there’s nothing wrong with opting for something that’s just meant for one thing: relaxation. Hummingbird’s Aromatherapy Massage (¥338 for 60 minutes or ¥498 for 90 minutes) offers you just the kind of relaxation you need. Start off by choosing the essential oil scent of your choice and then drift off into a blissful nap. If you don’t want a full-body oil massage, there’s a few other options to help you relax, with a wide variety of Chinese massages. For a quick relaxation session, we recommend their foot massage (¥188 for 60 minutes and ¥278 for 90 minutes). Let your therapist work out those kinks in your soles, and not only will your tired feet feel rejuvenated, your whole body and state of mind will get a nice little vacation as well.
While there are many places that offer massages, there’s one thing that we won’t go anywhere else for but here for; waxing. Having had some not-so-great waxing experience in the city that left us feeling repulsed and annoyed, we were happy to discover that Hummingbird offers perfect service when it comes to hair hair removal. Most important is sanitation. When it comes to waxing, especially Brazilians (¥368) the worst thing to discover is that your waxer double dips their stick. Gross! The skilled waxers of Hummingbird are able to keep the pain to a minimum and let you leave feeing fresh and new.
The next time you’re looking for some “me” time without burning a hole in your wallet, take a little side trip to Hummingbird.
