The Only Constant Is Change

Tell us a bit about yourself and what you do here in Beijing.
I am from Cincinnati, Ohio. I’ve been here for a year now and I’m working as an English teacher.

How would you describe your style?
I would describe my style as
mood changing. I dress based on what mood I’m in and what I’m currently inspired by. For example, I am currently into mixing tailored pieces with streetwear and athleisure or mixing feminine “fancy” items with broken-in basics.

Who’s your favorite fashion icon and why?
I have two fashion icons. One is Coco Chanel because she had a signature style and she focused on that, not trends. Chanel is all about simplicity, elegance, and comfort, and she was among the first to turn men’s wear into elegant feminine pieces for women. My other fashion icon is Rihanna because she has no fear of changing her style. She is a chameleon. She can be edgy one moment, then sexy and glamorous the next.

What’s your favorite item in your closet?
I love my accessories – all of them. I believe they always finish an
outfit like a period to a sentence.

If you could give one piece of advice about dressing stylish comfort, what would it be?
Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and mix things up. But, if you are not comfortable with going out of your comfort zone, then find some piece or style that works for you and work it (but throw in the occasional tweak). There’s the old saying, “If it ain’t broke, don't fix it”! But, fine tune it.

What’s your fashion advice for the beginning of winter?
My advice is to go with the flow. The temperatures changes constantly and by wearing separate pieces, it is easier to adapt to any climate with adding or taking away an article of clothing.

In your opinion, what makes a person a Fashionista?
A Fashionista is someone who follows fashion and is obviously obsessed with it. It is someone who wears things that inspires others to want to try themselves. He or she is someone who’s fearless and holds back for no one, but knows when to tone it down.
