This just in from LOTL Digital, the online edition of lesbian style and culture magazine LOTL (Lesbians On The Loose).
No reviews or comments from the SH LGBT crew yet but as soon as someone checks it out, the ever fagulous darling of Shanghai's pink comdrades, Gwen From Tempe will have something to say on the matter...
Anyway, here is what LOTL Digital has to report...
International Scene: Shanghai's New Lesbian Nightclub
"Shanghai is not short of a gay bar or two. Club D2 and Club Deep are popular and going strong, but a new "lala" lesbian bar will add to the mix.
Located on the first floor of 1 Yan'An Zhong Rd (the same building as De La Coast), the venue has gone lesbian on Saturday nights.
Not only that, but they have the best drinks deal on the Bund, if not in the whole city.
From 9pm-12am open bar costs RMB 30 (no, we are not missing a zero). After midnight, the drink prices raise to RMB 30 each.
A circular dance floor in the center of the club ensures plenty of showing off and people-watching.
The new bar makes a total of four known lesbian bars in Shanghai including: Red Station, Er Ling Ling on Taikang Road and Frangipani's lesbian lounge."
Sounds promising...but 30rmb for drinks? Err, I'm sorry, thats 30rmb for open bar all you can drink til midnight?
I know alot of Chinese lesbians don't drink as much as their alcoholic laowai comrades, but damn...
I'm thinkin' those shiny Shanga kids are not immune to the recent surge of fake alcohol - thats right - it ain't just Beijing anymore bitches ;)
Meanwhile, Beijing's newest lesbian nightclub (Saturday night only) at Paw Paw now charges 80rmb for their all you can drink open bar action and throws in some pole dancing tranny boys for visual entertainment.
Quick word of warning to new Beijing arrivals, and those who do not have a natural immunity to methyl alcohol (toxic to humans)... you can pretty much kiss your 80rmb goodbye as a "lala tax" - don't be thinking for a minute it means you should actually partake in the open-bar game... not unless you fancy being seriously ill - their alcohol is amongst the most toxic fake crap I have ever tried in my life (and I've lived here for close to 5 years now).
You have been warned ;)
Located on Sanlitun's Gongli Bei Lu, this weekly Saturday les-fest is fast becoming the most popular with Beijing's lala crowd.
A quick check of its predecessor, long running Lala night@Pipes Cafe on a recent Saturday night revealed a very empty scene - seems everyone has moved on over the the much bigger venue, huge dancefloor and ample cosy couches on offer at Paw Paw.
You can find Paw Paw next door to the The Den and rather appropriately, within drunken stumbling distance of Beijing's very own American import, Hooters, aka the boobie family restaurant...
No word on what either of these lala nights are actually called...the lesbians don't appear to be interested in such trivial pursuits with their girl-girl events, ah, give them time - perhaps they are just more interested in checking out the ladies...
