Qingming Holiday Rush Begins
As the sun sets on this shortened week, the crowds of people fleeing the city thicken. Reports are already trickling in that street traffic is swole up like...um...something that moves only once an hour. It's the very first official Qingming Holiday in the history of the PRC and it's looking very much like the Golden Weeks that these "mini-holidays" were supposed to obviate. Anyway, your Armchair Traveler has holiday plans (of course). I'll be heading to Moyashike on the recommendation of Sun Huijie of the Beijing hikers who scouted the location last year. There's a decent hotel out there and lots of hiking. More exciting, I'll be hanging with Maclean Brodie of the Mutianyu Schoolhouse on Sunday. Look for a full report on the Mutianyu project very soon! Trust me, you'll want to know what these guys are up to out there.
