The atrium of the Opposite House is the atmospheric setting for a book reading by Red Gate Gallery artist-in-residence Royston Tester, author of the short-story collection Fatty Goes to China.

Tester's prose explores the strange lives of people trying to find a home in "unaccomodating places", whether it be a Beijing railway station, a downtown Toronto neighborhood, or post-communist Romania. Thursday's reading will be a selection from Fatty titled ‘A Beijing Minute’ and has recently been included in the Quarterly Literary Review of Singapore.

Only forty seats are available for the reading, and Red Gate Gallery manager Liyu Yeo tells us that they are getting close to the forty mark. There are still empty seats, so RSVP to ensure a spot at the reading, and standing space is available for latecomers. Yeo also tells us that the Canadian ambassador will be attending (Tester emigrated to Canada from Britain) and refreshments will be served to the audience.
