Pearl S Buck-ing
Now that Wikipedia is (currently) not blocked by the Great Firewall of China, you can check out the link to Pearl S Buck's wiki page here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pearl_S._Buck
Not only was she politically involved and worked hard to make a lot of socio-political changes, she's also a wonderful author (or so I hear). I think that the next bookclub book definitely has to be The Good Earth as I'm dying to have an excuse to read one of her books as well ;)
But first... we need to get Mr Muo out of the way. I'm thinking... book club meeting early next week? That should give everyone the time to finish reading it before then. You can get copies of the book at the Garden Books (above the old Sequoia Cafe near the Intl Post Office at Jianguomen).

What style of writing does she do? Is it socio-political?

@wab: its nice to know that not all 'big noses' are vilified historically ;)
@wendy: she's done non-fiction, novels and essays, etc. I don't have an opinion yet on how good they are, but if history is any judge...

What is the first book/essay, etc. that you/anyone would suggest someone should read?

is it true that pearl bucks was a missionary?

Also, here's her Chinese name (for reference): 赛珍珠
I wonder if much of her stuff was published in China (and what people think of it)
