It's always struck me as a bit odd that the founder of Communist China would have his face printed on banknotes -- the quintessential symbol of capitalism.
Apparently, the Chinese government has also realized this contradiction and has consequently dropped the Chairman from their latest edition of the 10RMB bill. Instead of Mao's sunny face, Chinese consumers will now be paying for lunch and taxi rides with money that features the Bird's Nest on one side and the image of an ancient Grecian discus thrower on the other.
This is the first time that special Olympic-themed bills have been issued. But what would the "Savior of the people" say about being replaced by a heap of twisted steel and a statue from Greek "old culture"?

I'd be very envious to find out if anyone at City Weekend or using this Web site actually got their hands on one of the 10 RMB Olympic bank notes. As I recall, there were only 6 million notes printed and people camped outside banks all night to get their hands on the limited edition bills. I highly doubt consumers will be paying for lunch and taxi rides with those notes.
