SATC kicks off an eighties fashion revival

It’s no secret that one of the biggest reasons for the success of SATC is the four main characters’ to-die-for wardrobes. Fashion magazines, stylists and fans alike, wached the Sex and the City movie with cocktail in one hand and pen and notepad in the other, jotting out what would be the hottest new trends of the season. So as gossip columns buzz with news about the filming for the new SATC movie, due out May 2010, we may look set for taking a trip down memory lane not just in the film, but also in our own styling.

2009’s catwalk shows previewed many a hint as to the retrospective future of our closets; Dolce & Gabbana showed off exaggerated shoulders that would make the cast of Dallas weep with envy, and Balmain (spookily) paid homage to the late King of Pop months before his tragic death, with acid wash jeans and embellished drummer boy jackets.

Now, as we take a sneak at recent pics from the start of SATC 2 filming, we can anticipate a lot more than we bargained for. Photographs on location show 80’s memorabilia and a lot of big hair. Stay ahead of the game without looking like you never left the eighties, by mixing small pieces such as lace leggings, acid wash and brightly colored accessories with your autumnal hues. Go Flashdance-esque by coupling oversized sweaters with mini shorts, and for the guys, incorporate brightly colored T’s for a day to night look, and bring your smart daytime look to life by teaming fitted shirts with an embellished jacket.

And where better to pick up some key pieces and embrace the eighties than a trip to American Apparel , which is fabulous for picking up leggings and t-shirts in all the colors of the rainbow. For the embellished jackets, take a look at H&M’s collection, which has Balmain written all over it.
