933 Fakes: The Railways Get Hit

Call this mass forgery: 933 faked railway tickets were recently discovered by Beijing police. In pretty much the entire case, the con artists managed to alter existing train tickets. All 8 suspects are now with the police, closing out the capital's biggest ticket forgery case.

The case first started in mid-October following a series of reports concerning suspicious activity. Three people were arrested early on October 31, 2007 as the case grew.

By late Monday (December 10, 2007), the ringleader himself was captured along with 4 other people, closing out the biggest train ticket forgery case in Beijing this year. The gear used to create the fakes was taken in -- and was put out of action immediately.

Wow! So what happened to the 933 poor suckers who tried using the fake tickets? Was the guy operating in such a way that buyers knew they were fake tickets, or was he selling them off as the real deal? I've always been surprised that there haven't been more fake tickets sold around the train station, every time I've taken a train ride, there have been hoards of ticket sellers usually selling at inflated prices.
