All Subways: DO NOT ENTER Subway Works Sites

(But of course you won't.)

Late-breaking news: a fellow member of a city Subway forum, very much interested in how new stations on Beijing's Line 4 (Daxing) look like (and we can tell you from the pics online that the first stop south, Xingong, look both huge and a tad odd), took things into his own hands — and went down into the station. Unhappy with just standing on the platform, the guy went on to the tracks.

And then went missing for about three days.

The guy's remains ended up in Daxing some days later. Your Beijingologist concludes that it must have been that 750V third rail by the tracks that "did the guy in".

A short but very stern notice: do not attempt to enter any Subway works sites or anywhere under construction, especially without authorization of any kind beforehand. And while the all-above-ground Line 15 stops with full-height screen doors look like elevated palaces and are simply great, it's yours for the riding only beginning as of late December 2010.
