Yep, that's true. Today's February 2 in the Chinese Lunar Calendar. Apparently, you were supposed to have your hair cut just before Spring Festival (Feb 14 this year) and to keep it like that for the first month of the Chinese Spring Festival.
Obviously, it didn't work for your Beijingologist. He had his haircut about a couple of weeks ago. Did we hear that that was bad for his fortunes? Oh well...
Apparently, February 2 in the Lunar Calendar is when all those creatures start coming out of their hiding places. We predict no more snow for a fair bit, so it's probably safe to let those creepy-crawlies come out for once and for all — at least until late this year. The two twos are supposed to be a "lucky pair", hence this "special" date.
