Own four wheels? That's the gas price that just went up. With gas prices hovering around CNY 6 a liter if you're doing RON 98, gas just got that bit more expensive.
What if you're renting a set of wheels with a driver -- that is, taking the taxi? Take heart: the government, out of all people, are footing the bill due to that price surge. A CNY 110 government compensation given to each cab per month will likely save you from being charged more.
And while we're on the topic of price surges, the National Development and Reform Commission took down a notice regarding steps to take to counter the rising prices of fuel. The big reason behind this: a lot of guesswork into whether or not next year's chunyun, or Spring Festival trips, will get pricier or not. The Commission blamed the media for tweaking and twisting the notice, and has removed the report to avoid possible disputes.
The Commission did, however, note that any price surges would almost certainly be accompanied by a tingzheng, that is, a hearing on possible price hikes. In other words, don't expect your chunyun ticket to suddenly go up without a debate.
