Bad, bad news right at the bottom of the Wanbao today: MJ (Michael Jackson) has died at "just" the age of 50. Best known for his signature songs, including Bad, Beat It and Black or White, the King of Pop's death stretched Twitter to the limit and was in all-black at the bottom of today's Wanbao.

Other headliners tell of the girlfriend of Beijing H1N1 Case #96 as yet another H1N1 patient — making this the first local patient. Also pretty scary: the heatwave's still with us (despite tomorrow's forecast at "just" 35°C).

Some Subway news to feed you (we'll do two posts in one today; your Beijingologist needs an early night): Line 10 (Phase II) works aren't all underway yet — but the great majority (70%) are; Line 14 will get a further extension west to Changxindian, which is just southwest of Lugouqiao or the Marco Polo Bridge, and Line 15 will open in 2010 — at least the bit between Wangjing West and Houshayu will, thus giving Wangjing the first real Subway link.

Tomorrow will still be on the hot side: 25°C to at least 35°C are officially forecasted, with T-storms part of the show. No number plate restrictions apply! Enjoy the weekend!
