Wanbao, June 29, 2009: Banging Trains and Hurt Pets

Get ready for a very brutal Wanbao. Jeepers. Our hands are trembling as we're typing this... first off, that's the wreckage of two trains slamming right into Chenzhou Railway Station. 3 died and 80 were injured. This sure seems to be a sucky start to the new week and a bad way to finish this eventful month...

Two Subway news are next: security check personnel who text like mad without taking a look at what's going through the X ray machine will get fined CNY 300; and it looks like roadworks in Yizhuang are the result of a very successful Yizhuang Line in the works.

Two tragic pet stories next: the cops just caught a -- what can be best described as a -- steal-a-dog gang/mob thingy. A look at their secret ops place shows graphic pictures sure to bring instant tears: hung dogs with blood dripping as the poor thing's twisted 180 degrees. We sure hope that these criminals get the penalty they're due for. Meanwhile, dogs are attacking those poor ducks at the Loong (dragon) shaped river near the Bird's Nest -- if that dog's yours, make sure it's on a leash! Inter-animal brutality is just as bad as the human-to-animal version.

This being no attempt at recreating the good-news-only 7 o'clock news show, then, we thought we'd finish this off with a forecast for the next day (clear, then cloud, 23°C to 34°C but likely hotter, although likely below 40°C) and a look at what cars aren't allowed mobile inside the 5th Ring (those with plates trailing in 1 and 6).
