Wanbao, Oct 23, 2009: Socially Secured Scenic Spots

Headliners today tell of the People's Republic of China's Social Security Card getting off to a good start today in Xicheng District. Take this card to places like Peking University, and that's all you need to get — healed (Chinglish, we know). The card looks quite a bit like the PRC's ID card, but has a visible chip.

Further inside stories tell of the Jing's new 16 City Scenes — the Forbidden City, Beihai, the Summer Palace, Lugouqiao (Marco Polo Bridge), the Bird's Nest, the Water Cube, Shichahai, Wangfujing, the Beijing Happy Valley, Zhoukoudian, the Ming Tombs, the National Center for the Performing Arts, Badaling, the Temple of Heaven, Tian'anmen and Yuanmingyuan are all in. Wow. You still short for breath after that monster of a sentence?

Windows 7 is reality from today onwards — CNY 399 is all you need for the new OS from Microsoft, and if you're running that excuse of an OS known as "Windows Vista", you can upgrade for free if your unfortunate old PC came with that Shanzhai Mac OS preinstalled from June 26, 2009 through January 31, 2010.

Finally, Chang'an Avenue's getting a face-lift — signpost-wise. New signs are now long enough to have their heads poking out from the trees nearby, and signs are also that bit more massive — 3m x 5m instead of 2m x 4 m. You could hang your Beijingologist on one of these signs and there'd still be enough space...

Sunnier still tomorrow — early morning fog maybe. 10°C to 23°C. No plate limits for cars tomorrow. Yay!
