Wanbao! Wanbao! Apr 30, 2008: 100 Days To Go
100 days to go until the Games. The headliner couldn't be more of an Olympic proportion, with 15,000 departing from the Bird's nest, and another 6,000 at the Great Hall of the People.
Funnier still is the ad just below the big headliner: 307,000 China Mobile signal stations near the peak of the Himalayas and of course, Mount Everest. This is your Beijingologist -- surfing via GPRS, 8,848 meters and counting, up there, above. (Yeah right -- he's more like 44 meters "above there" in good ol' Beijing!)
Other bits and bobs:
• The group with the flame near the Himalayas has not yet made their way up the mountain yet. BOCOG held an emergency news conference to correct the off-track report. (Page 3)
• Onto something Games-related, the flame is now in Hong Kong. (Page 5)
• All freeways will open the entirety of their toll gates come the May 1 break. (Page 7)
• The new Dayangfang toll gate on the Jingjintang Freeway is reality. An ETC system is planned for full compatibility with existing ETC systems later this year. Also, the Jingjintang Freeway will be expanded to 8 lanes later. (Page 8)
More clouds than sun, 15°C - 26°C.
