Wanbao! Wanbao! Dec 13, 2007: Reserve Your Med Spot
239 days before the Olympics... your Beijingologist feeling a bit woozy (freezing weather at fault, maybe), so just a quick breeze-through of the daily Wanbao or evening newspaper:
• The headlines today have it that you must be pre-registered or apply early to see a doctor -- so as to secure that you've some time with him or her. Meanwhile, Dongzhimen station will be out of action in full from Dec 16, 2007 through to Jan 9, 2008; reroute using Line 5 where possible.
• The big picture today can get a bit emotional: a convicted felon is seeing his mom off -- quite literally -- at the grave. The courts granted him the OK for this very emotional moment, which the paper dubbed "humanitarian".
• Pages 4 and 6 deal with local-related news: just 2% of the population are still on 1st-generation ID cards. Meanwhile, if you lose your passport (PRC ones that is) you will no longer need to declare it by publishing a note in the newspaper.
• Today's the anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre. The bell tolled (as the story on page 2 has it) to remember the 300,000 dead.
• The Yizhuang Line will link the BDA and Yizhuang with central Beijing; a great map is on page 3.
• Quick weather report: clear, a bit cloudy, and maybe just a bit more windy tomorrow; -6°C to 4°C in terms of temps.
Ladies and gents, your Beijingologist has to take the night off. We're on the last bit of brain batt...
