Wanbao! Wanbao! May 2, 2008: The Flame's In HK

Andy Lau holding the Olympic Flame -- that's how the Wanbao 98 days before the Games greets the readership. It's there, the flame, now officially in PRC territory; the relay started in the Fragrant Harbor at 10 AM today.

Other headliners: illegal ticket sellers will be history in a month; all government departments now have a public phone number (see page 4); and Zhou Dong's performance takes the wraps off the new Workers' Stadium.

Around the Wanbao...

• Buying bread (with fruit stuck in it no less) from Yili? Prices are going up by CNY 0.40 a pack. (Page 4)

• Everyone loves them flowers. A quick May Break report: CNY 400 M (nearly) in spent money, flowers are all the rage, and parking complaints are -- well, all the rage, too. (Page 4)

• PetroChina's getting rid of that "gasoline smell" at gas stations. They also talk of safe gas stations even if you're on the mobile phone. Not that we suggest you try... (Page 4)

• "The policeman advise:" if you're heading out of the mainland, photocopy your passport and carry copies around in case the real thing gets lost. (Page 5)

Rain, 18°C - 22°C.
