Wanbao! Wanbao! May 4, 2008: Introducing the Olympic Volunteers

96 days before the Games, and the Olympic Volunteers now have a home. Vice-President Xi Jinping announced the establishment of the volunteer corps, which grabbed the headlines tonight.

Also big on pages 2 and 3: the Flame Relay has now returned to Mainland China, starting in Sanya, the southernmost point of the PRC. Wuzhishan and Haikou are a few other destinations in Hainan.

Elsewhere...

• Look at that fabulou sunset. Après la pluie, les belles temps. (Page 4)

• Raindrops are with us on May 6 and 11, but otherwise, it'll be a lot of sun next week. Summer's not all that far away... (Page 4)

• The impact of this year's shortened May Break: less people at the scenic spots. A drop of 30% Y-O-Y was reported, with only 44% of hotels booked. (Page 5)

• The Chaobai River is now once again -- a river. The Rainbow Bridge (over which runs Municipal Hwy 305, or the Shunping Highway) looks especially neat. (Page 5)

A mix of sun and clouds, 11°C - 28°C.
