Wanbao! Wanbao! May 7, 2008: Elevated Forests

How wacky can the capital of the People's Republic of China get? How about turning one of them freeway viaducts into an extension of the Olympic Forest Park? The big pic shows Beijing probably been too green: trees are now all the rage on the central bridge in the Olympic Forest Park. Quite a green -- sight -- 93 days before the Games.

A look at other news...

• Starting June 1, 2008, if you're trapped inside a lift, they have thirty minutes to get you out. That's what a new law has to say -- you must be rescued within half an hour. Not a lot of "or else"-ing around here. It's The Law. (Page 3)

• If that restaurant is charging you to use sanitized or clean chopsticks or bowls, challenge it. All this should be provided to you for the low price of zero. It's your entitlement to a clean, germ-free meal. (Page 4)

• A -- get this -- toilet guidance system is planned for central Beijing by the end of this year. Not a surprise, then, seeing that the city has more toilets than any other metropolis on the planet. (Page 4)

...and pic news...

• The Summer Palace is now a wheelchair-accessible park. Yay! More and more people now get to visit the imperial gardens... (Page 3)

• Shenwumen -- redone. The Forbidden City is just that bit more accessible. (Page 4)

• Bang! Nissan bangs into train on the railway crossing on Tonghuihe South Road. (Page 7)

Less clouds, more sun. 14°C - 26°C.
