As editor for LifeStyle magazine, Jeffrey Ying gets invited to many new venues' opening parties, but he mainly goes for the free-flow Champagne. Jeffrey ruminates on the new stores at Village North: “I love the grand-opening parties for luxury brand companies like Balenciaga and Versace, but what strikes me is how empty-looking they are after their big entrance.” Jeffrey’s own style can be described as a little bit country and a little bit Rococo, as evidenced in this gorgeous Yves Saint Laurent three-piece suit combined with the vintage Stetson Open Road hat and Urban Cowboy-inspired black suede high-heeled boots. For Jeffrey, it’s an outfit’s accoutrements that give it weight. He explains, “I feel that it's the peripheral accessories that men should be the most focused on—much like women, men can acquire well fitting clothing inexpensively, but cheap shoes and a cheap belt will inevitably make any expensive outfit look cheap.” Beijing is a fashion playground for the likes of Jeffrey Ying, because it does not have the historical precedent for what constitutes “conservative style” in the West, and thus people can deck themselves out in their finest regalia without encountering negativity. However, Jeffrey confesses he doesn’t actually shop much in Beijing, “except for at the wholesale liquor market where restaurants get their things from.” Look out for this carousing Fashionista at the next big-brand opening. He is the one getting tipsy while channeling the style influences of Lyndon B. Johnson.
