Censorship Watch: April Fool's presents!

This is a little bit late, but I wanted to hold my tongue in case I had been duped by those April Fool's crazy Internet police mascots, Jingjing and Chacha...

But, it has been more than a week, so I feel comfortable at least expressing my pleasure at some new things that have been coming through the firewall. As of a few minutes ago, I still had no trouble accessing Youtube, Wikipedia, Wordpress, Blogger, Flickr, and even the BBC (AKA the greatest evil-doer and Olympics saboteur on the planet)

Count me as very impressed that the Internet powers-that-be have seen fit to be so open during what has been a week of PR disasters and some very loudly articulated anti-China sentiments in and around the vicinity of the "harmonious torch relay".

Check out some significantly more thoughtful analysis on this topic courtesy of the great Benjamin Joffe

Please let me know if you are finding sites that are still blocked....

....I promise not to judge

Genius quote of the day from Jacques Rogge, head of IOC, about boycotting (or even criticizing) the Olympics: “China will close itself off from the rest of the world, which, don’t forget, it has done for some 2,000 years,” he said, somewhat exaggerating history, in an interview broadcast Wednesday in his native Belgium. SOMEWHAT exaggerating? The guy's an idiot.

While much suddenly is unblocked, there's still much unavailable. Examples include hrw.org, civisec.org and other such sites.

Thanks Russell. What are those sites for?

hrw is human rights watch civisec is something about "internet security for civil society"

These seem like obvious targets to be blocked. A less obvious example is something like octopuspie.com which is some webcomic about Brooklyn. Blocking seems random as ever from that.
