Grandma's Milkshake Brings All the Boys to the Yard
The incredible Rachel Simhon and I left Chen Yuli's studio on Sunday and headed over to Grandma's Kitchen for a bite. Now, I had checked out the breakfast at Grandma's Kitchen at Guanghua Lu before, but the Grandma's Kitchen at Jianwai Soho is in a class of its own. And, the 25RMB milkshake is friggin amazing.
If that shake had been around in the 1960s Frank Lukas would have had to smuggle that smack out of Thailand, and Leonard Cohen would have written somber, lonely songs about withdrawal from its sugar high. Thurston Moore would be 300 pounds, and Chris Farley would have died earlier.
If you think you can handle that kind of peanut-buttery sugar smack, best head down there ASAP.

That milkshake is, in fact, the panacea for all social ills (if not the ideal first meal after a long night of techno). I no longer cringe to admit that I reside in the CBD!

I used to get the Chocolate-Banana-Peanutbutter combo at Grandmas all for RMB 25 (individually they were RMB 25 as well, so it made sense).
I'm not sure who tipped them off, but the last time I tried to mix milkshakes, they said if I wanted my three-in-one combo, I'd have to add an extra 10 kuai. sigh (2 in one was 'okay' though, for some strange reason)
Anyhow, I'm off to the Tex Mex place mentioned in the other article to see if I can push forward with my ice creamery concoctions.

First time blog poster, longtime web prowler here. I haven't read the actual post yet, but loved the title ever so much. A taco salad and any kind of milkshake are my choices at the Grandma's. Has anyone hit up the Cold Stone Creamery out in Qinghai, er, Haidian?

Your mastery of pop culture allusions is stunning and somewhat worrying.

The Country Skillet at Grandma's Kitchen tastes as good as it is greasy. Be sure to get the smothered and covered hash browns though.
