Kick-off! NCAA and NFL Football
We're one week into college football and the NFL kicks off Sep 4, eastern time. We know Beijing sports bars are playing the seasons essentials: the English Premier, the Australian football and rugby leagues, not forgetting the Tri-Nations final and the US Tennis Open. But if the sport that really gets you is all-American football, we're here to keep you updated on how to watch.
Die-hard sport fans, weigh in on this blog. We'll be updating it all season.
Goose and Duck uses a slingbox which transmits from the internet to get games that satellite can't pick up. Conveniently, G&D is open 24 hours, so you can still catch games playing at awkward times like at 3:30 p.m. ET.
Last year The Rickshaw hosted NFL Breakfasts the beginning of every week, early enough for Monday and Sunday night football. This year, they're likely do the same endless coffee, breakfast special deals on Mondays and Tuesdays but wait for our confirmation after next Tuesday. Managers are waiting to see how well the satellite will pick up the games this week.
With 65 screens, All Star has pledged that it can accommodate most any sports request. They have a fancier satellite in the works to stream and record all games. When that's in they'll be posting their game-showing schedule on their website.
Frank's Place has also pledged to open at 8 a.m. for NFL as well as NBA and hockey games from North America. They close only when the last sports fan has had enough. With a sling box, eight LCD screen TV's and two projector screens, they also pledge to get any game you request. Call George or Tim at the bar.
As for Paddy O Sheas, expect all soccer and rugby matches, notably the Tri-Nations final with Australia and New Zealand facing off. The Den is showing Formula 1 racing. Frank's Place also shows live feed from each stop on the circuit.
Overall, your best bet is to check with the bar about the specific game you want to see and it's best to request in groups. Keep in mind that satellite is not always dependable and internet feed is not always clear. Network schedules come out about a week in advance, so check with your favorite bars to see if they're getting signal strong and clear.
Or ask your favorite city informant, and we'll call around and get the dish.

Who is going to be broadcasting the University of Southern California and Ohio State University college football game next weekend (8 p.m. ET on ABC)?
