Beijing rockers Carsick Cars, P.K.14 and Xiao He from the Maybe Mars label recently returned to the capital after a hugely successful U.S tour. Their twelve city tour saw them playing sold out shows and receiving rave reviews from The Washington Post, The New York Times and CNN amongst others.

They held a event at D-22 where they gave a brief talk on their U.S experiences along with tour manager Charles Saliba.

Speaking passionately about the bands tour manager Charles Saliba explained that the tour was a chance for them to prove what they had known all along, that Chinese bands could create a buzz sate side and that Beijing was next in line to be the new home of rock and roll.

Taking on the U.S with force Carsick Cars, P.K.14 and Xiao He silenced any critics who thought that Chinese music should sound Chinese and proved that the only thing that mattered was not where the music came from but whether it was any good.

Lead singer of Carsick Cars Shou Wang said that due to the warmth of the reception they received playing in the U.S he would often forget where he was, ‘I forgot I was playing in a foreign country and would say Xie Xie and Ni Hao at the end of the show’ he explained.

With rave reviews and sell out shows Carsick Cars, PK14, Xiao He and the maybe Mars label have proved that rock and roll really is an international language and it won’t be long before the biggest buzz in music comes from Beijing.
