If you’re sick of searching for gifts at big malls, check out the Today Art Museum’s Art Gift Center. Set behind the museum, this showroom/store offers a quiet, leisurely shopping experience. The biggest product here is jewelry, from both Chinese and foreign designers. Local artist Sui Jianguo’s Chinese tunic suit necklace (¥2,600) comes in styles for both men and women. Dutch avant-garde designer Michiel Ansingh’s insect brooches (¥400-1,000), made of precious stones and vintage metal, are unique choices. Tea lovers can find artistic tea pot sets (¥2,800-4,500) designed by Yue Minjun and Taiwanese Shi Dayu. Another surprising find here is local young print artist Sun Ying’s rabbit series, reasonably priced at around ¥2,000. There are also smaller artistic gifts like felt bags, candle holders and fridge magnets (¥38-58).

Puzzled?

If your inner child is still into old-school games and puzzles, you’ll want to visit Pin Tu Fang, a small shop on Nanluoguxiang. You can find massive puzzles with 8,000 pieces, as well as tiny puzzles of only 24 pieces. Besides normal puzzles, they stock 3-D puzzles (¥20-515) of globes, animals and buildings.
