Boys in Cage - Rebuilding the Rights of Statues!
Anyone who has half a brain was at the jam packed 2 Kolegas this weekend for the obligatory Hedgehog, Subs, Re-tros, Random(K)e show. Personally, I'm not down for being squashed like anchovies in a can when trying to enjoy live music, but it was still pretty fantastic and the bands all killed, drinks were flowing and the sound was decent.
Has anyone noticed that (lead singer) Dong Hua has worn the same shirt on stage for years? Yunno.... that white, short sleeve button up? In any case, it was an awesome set, and as Lee Mack and I gleefully noted, (guitarist) Min Liu got a fancy pants new haircut that allows you to actually see her face and Dong Hua is using some new positioning techniques that requires him to sort of but not really stand facing the crowd. I say "sort of but not really" because he's not quite there yet, but it's a vast improvement from last year's shows where you basically just stood with his back to the crowd the entire set. Maybe next year?
In other news - according to Dong Hua, the Re-tros have a brand new album coming out sometime in December or January through Modern Sky, and after listening to the poorly recorded but still totally awesome 'Cut-Off!' EP a billion times, I'm totally looking forward to it. Keep your eyes peeled to this blog for more updates!

It was a great show, even though afterwards I totally embarrassed myself by talking to this really cool girl who was wearing an outlandish hat for about 15 minutes and then she told me her name "Kang Mao" and I was like, "are you in a band or something?" and Jon Campbell overheard me and nearly crucified me with his disbelieving laughter: she's the lead singer of subs. In other news: I heard the Queen Sea Big Shark album due in December has been bumped back because the lead singer was in a car accident. Ouch!
