Another kidnapping attempt in Shunyi. We reported about an incident outside Yosemite Villa Estate, this time the attempt happened by the the East Gate of Dulwich College Legend Garden Campus.

A boy in the ninth year at DCB was approached by an adult stranger who claimed he'd been sent by the boy's parents to pick him up. The boy didn't accept the offer and his mother called the school to report the incident. The principal then wrote a letter to parents warning them about the abduction attempt, briefed the school about what to do in a similar situation and recommended that parents speak with their children about keeping themselves safe.

Here is the letter to parents from the Legend Garden Campus headmaster:

9th December 2011

Dear Parents,

I want to let you know as matter of some urgency, that yesterday at about 4.00 pm one of our Year 9 students was approached by an adult stranger who said to the boy that he had been sent by his parents to pick him up, which was not the case. The incident took place outside the East Gate of the Legend Garden Campus. Fortunately, the boy was old and wise enough to know better, and did not accept the invitation. His mother contacted us soon after to alert us of the situation.

Clearly, we are concerned that this incident has taken place. The safety and well-being of our students is of paramount importance. Accordingly, everyone must be vigilant and take extreme care in dealing with the issue of `stranger danger'. Our guards are on heightened alert and today all students will be briefed by teachers and form tutors about the potential dangers and what do if faced with a similar situation. However, I would be grateful if you could take the time to discuss this matter with your children at home and reiterate the safeguarding messages being put out by the school.

For your information, we are in contact with the local police to discuss this matter. If we receive any further information, I will share this with you immediately. Thank you for your support.
