Ssssssssssh ... I have a secret which I am happy to share with CW FM readers. But keep it to yourselves, OK?
You know how when temperatures reach 35 degrees in Beijing -- as they did on Sunday -- and you just want to dive in to an outdoor pool or stretch out in the sun while the kids play in the shade?
”It's too early in the season for al fresco swimming!” you might scoff.
For the most part, you are right -- many of the outdoor venues (e.g. Crab Island, Chaoyang Park) have yet to open as have many of the compound pools (Dragon Bay Villas, Seasons Park, etc.).
So, unless you have access to one of the outdoor Embassy pools, there aren't a great deal of options on a sweltering May weekend.
But here's the secret ... head out on the Airport Road to the Sino-Swiss Hotel. Pay the 80 RMB / 40 RMB (adult/child) entrance fee (children under 4 free) at their 'Splash Club' and you have a day of swimming, lounging, playing, eating and, if you're lucky, sleeping to look forward to.
Prices go up to 130 RMB per adult (half price for kids) next month and it gets an awful lot busier so make the most of it now.
Like I said though, 'Mum's the word' - it's not too crowded at present and we like it that way!
