I’ve often wondered about the obsession that Chinese magazines and advertisements have with western babies, earlier this week I had the chance to experience it in a first hand way. The daughter of a friend of ours was talent spotted in the street and it turned out the shoot required two western babies so off we went.

I had a vision of Dylan looking really cool for the shoot but when we got there reality dawned when they asked me to put him in a tacky D&G baby grow! The two babies were photographed separately, we were up first. In yet another blow to my fantasy of a cool modelling experience I found myself taking ever more extreme and embarrassing measures to make Dylan smile and laugh, his response was a cold and steely stare that said "Stop it Dad, you're making a fool of us". This point really hit home when I watched our friend undertake her performance! The result was a kind of parent/baby "cute off" that I felt we were definitely winning until the last shot of the day when we were comprehensively thrashed by a the cutest smile you ever saw! If we're ever going to make it in this cutthroat world Dylan is going to have to learn to work it a bit harder, oh, and lay off that extra rusk!
