With the impending reality of school's end, there has been a wealth of events intended to show off what the various ISB teams and clubs have accomplished this year.

Case in point: the Dance Showcase hit the theater on Thursday with a half-hour long set of performances that had accumulated over the course of the year. Says Mari Toronto (11), dance team captain of the dance showcase, “the enthusiastic audience made you really want to pull out all stops.”

Some of the highlights were choreographed works by team captains Mari Toronto and Angela Sun. Mari Toronto (11) choreographed and intricate and emotional interpretation of The Fray's "How to Save a Life," where she applied her experience as an actor to dancing. It was, she said, about "all those moments in life when you regret not having done something."

Xixi, an ISB alum, and Henry Chen (12) breakdanced together, dressed all in black and decked out in an impressive array of bling. One interesting moment was when Xixi's chain broke as she spun, wrapping itself around her several times. To close the event, the dance team performed the song “You Can’t Stop The Beat” from Hairspray, incorporating elementary schoolers into the routine. Everyone was red-faced by the end from all the jumping and shaking.

The dance team has been around for almost as long as most students can remember now, but it is only just starting to build a reputation at ISB as well as some ‘devoted fans’. Mari explains that "people finally realize how much hard work goes into pulling this together; I have a great audience to perform for!"

And now that it’s over? Mari’s mixed feelings surface when she says, “while it's nice to have one less thing to be worried about during the week, I really miss dance team already!” Her remarks are echoed by Catherine Simard-Morisette, a member who just joined this year and has already tried her hand at choreography. Catherine states that Tuesday, dance practice, is her favorite day of the week. She reminds all prospective dancers to try out next year: “the only thing you need is commitment, tights and a positive attitude!”

Cool blog. So, this is what it's like to be a high school student these days: "commitment, tights and a positive attitude." Just like in my salad days.
