In line with its mission to “contribute positively to society,” [The International School of Beijing] (http://www.cityweekend.com.cn/beijing/listings/parents-and-kids/schools_k12/has/international-school-of-beijing/) (ISB) has partnered with the Zhejiang Xinhua Compassion Education Foundation, a non-profit organization that sponsors students and education programs in China, on a new project to help the victims of last year’s devastating earthquake in Sichuan province.
Called “Rebuilding Dreams,” the RMB3 million project aims to reconstruct Zhong Xin Elementary School in Sichuan’s Mianyang City. Half the proceeds will come from the ISB community via students, staff, PTA support and corporate partnerships, and half will come from the Chinese government.
The construction process will span from May 2009 through January 2010, after which ISB will embark on new ways to assist and co-operate with the members of Zhong Xin Elementary. Possible ideas include building dorms and a track, and hosting China Link trips for ISB students to visit the school.
