As the end of the school year approaches, one final event has captured the interest of many students: High School Prom, which takes place right after exam week. Open to only Juniors and Seniors, it is the cause of much excitement. Junior Laura Yang says that she's "excited for prom" and just wants "exams to be over with." Senior Andrea Huang is similarly excited, although for another reason: "Prom is one of the final opportunities we get to see everyone in the grade before graduation."
Preparation rituals include getting hair done at a professional salon, manicures and pedicures, and for some, even a limousine rental. With such excitement all around, the Prom Committee has high expectations to meet. On Friday afternoon, three days before the first exam, these girls were still slaving away entering data into the computer, sacrificing much of their own (study?) time. With so much effort put into it, junior Student Council member Severine Cao expresses a strong desire for "Prom to be a success."
But for all their work, it seems that Committee members may not be able to enjoy the event to its fullest. "We have to greet guests for about an hour at the start" says Liyan Tay, a member of the Committee. However, she adds that this year, "we made changes to the schedule so that we won't have to show up early in our dresses and heels to move tables around." This clever change will make their duties less cumbersome. "I think it'll be fun," she concludes.
And after another year of school, I think we need this fun.
