Behind the Decks with Terry Tu
From his start at 2004's DMC China Championship Final, to his status as Acupuncture Records' premiere purveyor of warm, atmospheric house beats, DJ and producer Terry Tu's rise in the Beijing nightlife scene has kept the city's clubbers dancing past dawn. Never without plugs to protect the precious drums on each side of his head, the Wuhan native's ear is also the one that slices and dices the bits of sound in some of China's biggest film releases. We talked to Acupuncture's after-hours sonic wizard to find out what some of his recent tracks of choice are.
-- Star & Ito, "Sudoko Kid" (Original Mix): A classic tech-house track. The beats sound really cool! The tweaked bleeping refrain can always soap the audience, and makes everyone dance with me.
-- Tiger Stripes, "Nacht": This is the best track for after parties, it makes me flow up in the air every time.
-- Daniela Stickroth, "Ghost In The Attic" (Dan Berkson and James What Remix): I love the melody.
-- Terry Lee Brown Junior, "Our Rhythm" (Matthias Tanzmann Remix): Terry Lee Brown Junior + Matthias Tanzmann = Real Deep House. Yes! It's our rhythm!
-- Gui Boratto & Martin Eyerer, "The Beach": The Beach is beautiful.
