Beijing Weekender :: Sat-Sun, May 24-25
Around 11pm last night, I arrived at the Yen 4-Year Anniversary Party at Star Live, and it hit me: I hadn't uploaded the Weekender blog post! Of course the best in Beijing nightlife events are always available on our site, but I still like to throw out a few recommendations on Friday. My apologies for this belated post. I hope that your weekend is a great one.
SATURDAY
Tonight is the night Beijing hip-hop fans have waited for as DJ Nu-Mark, one of the most innovative turntablists on the scene, plays a not-to-be-missed show at Song. Nu-mark integrates live voicings of children's instruments into his set, so this is far from your usual DJ set. Meanwhile the Nine Gates Jazz Festival continues at The Forbidden City Concert Hall with Yannie Rieu. Lan Club celebrates the '80s with The Disco Night Story. And Chopschticks bring world-famous stand-up comic, Tom Suilue to Block 8. Finally, a certain local photographer of note, Matthew Niederhauser will be holding a release party for his new book soundcapital, a collection of images documenting Beijing's indie and punk scene, at Lost & Found.
SUNDAY
The Stone Boat hosts the Sichuan Charity Jam at which some of Beijing's best bands, including Panjir, Hanggai, Arrows Made Of Desire and Junglecat will jam together while Tuk Tuk serves delicious Thai cuisine. 100 percent of proceeds will go to Mercy Corps. In Zhongshan Park, Nine Gates Jazz Fest continues with the [Excess Luggage Trio]. And at Kokomo, DJs Patrick Yu and Lady Marmelade serve up delicious house beats at the monthly Sundays On Top party.
