Break That Beat

According to Kiss, God gave rock n’ roll to us. And though that may be true, it was Loco Dice who gave techno to us. Dice’s show last year at The Bank was the Gummi-Beary juice that Beijing needed to get the techno scene hopping. Soon after, BaiCai exploded with a series of bigger and badder techno parties, Acupuncture Records took form, White Rabbit opened, and everyone, everyone’s brother and everyone’s brother’s xiaomi went dancing. If the Jing’s rock scene has hit some bumps on its track, the techno scene has soared with the wind at its back. The end of May will see the return of the Dice to play Tango’s Fifth Anniversary Party. In other techno news, Beijing’s underground dance club White Rabbit is now open seven days a week from 9pm until breakfast, and two new clubs are finally opening. ChinaDoll (Tongli) plans to open with a soft opening on June 6 and a hard opening on June 12. Breakbeat techno titan Thomé Tomato is rumored to be ChinaDoll’s resident DJ. A week or so later, Klubb Rouge will be opening its gargantuan penthouse space on the 14th floor of China View with beautiful high ceilings, an elevated DJ booth, private VIP rooms and slick, chrome bar. Stay tuned to the Beat blog for details.
