Feel like some FREE jazz w/ Harry Connick Jr.?
You just saw a quick vid of Harry Connick Jr.'s "Take All of Me", one of his quintessential moments on stage. He's taking that act with his Nola's Big Band in March to Shanghai. For those of you who don't know Harry Connick Jr., he's been playing the piano since he was 9, sings a la' a young Frank Sinatra, acts (remember, he kissed Deborah Messing in Will & Grace among many other roles) and composes jazz and big band music with the gusto of such notables as Wynton and Branford Marsalis. So if you weren't already hankering for some New Orleans flavor (or something cool and different in Shanghai) and a bit of diversity in the Spring concert circuit, you've found what you're looking for.
What will he be playing? HJC's latest album, Oh, My Nola is a tribute album to the people and music of New Orleans. Still suffering to recover from Hurricane Katrina, Oh, My Nola brings out some of HCJ's best with everything from stride piano, Cajun, big band jazz, pop and R&B. A portion of each album sales helps support the New Orleans recovery effort. CW is giving away FREE tickets to Harry's show this March 11th at Beijing Exhibition Theatre and hopes to see you there. To enter into a chance to win, simply follow the instructions below in the comments field.

Congratulations to effiepw & cynthjeany! Emma Ticketmaster was impressed by the effort and info they put into discussing the Harry Connick Jr. contest question. They’ve each gotten a pair of free tickets to see Harry Connick Jr. live in performance in either Beijing or Shanghai.

For those of you still hungry for free stuff, we're giving away tickets to Major League Baseball's Padres vs. Dodgers Exhibition Game in the near future. We hold these competitions to reward our biggest fans, you. Yeah, that's cheesy, but hey it's true. Hope you'll help CW fight the good fight. Spread the word! "It's your site, use it often".

I wish I was in New Orleans because the music there is some of the best in the world. It has been almost 20 years since I was last in New Orleans, but I remember clearly that the musical experience there was so much more developed than here in Beijing. New Orleans music is interactive. The musicians are talking to each other, and even more important, to the audience. Its a dialogue not a monologue. I think that this element of the music has been lost in jazz around the world, and I want to find it again, and even better, bring it back to Beijing.

I wish I was in New Orleans so I could go see Collin's mom and tell her some secrets ;)

The soul of New Orleans is its music. More than 2 years ago, Hurricane Katrina wrought havoc on New Orleans and caused much misery to its inhabitants. But survivors who are now rebuilding New Orleans know that music is part of the healing process. I wish I were in New Orleans to witness its re-birth - its music, its soul.

The grits and the glitter, drag queens selling Lucky Dogs by the side of John Lefleet's blacksmith shop. Cheap candy colored livations taint the sour streets while "show your tits" attitudes filter down from the balconies that provide protection from the local anti nudity officers as well as shelter from the prying hands of the stumble drunk crowd as they reach out like bagers for flesh they will never be freely given. Shrimps the size of Berkinstocks float in a thick sea of BBQ Sauce and the pull pork sandwich is to die for...and quite many do as New Orleans is a city known for people who consider gravy a bevrage.

We'll be going back to downtown from the west, and on the way I hope we'd pass by National Grand Theatre so Harry and his band would know that next time when they come to Beijing again they can perform in the golden egg. We'll take a left to Wangfujing for some late-night exciting crazy food fest (you know what they are!) depending on what time we get there and to leave them a beautiful impression of Beijing we're going to Houhai for some drinks at any bar of their choice. It might sound like a late night touristy deal but after all, 11 March is a Tuesday night... ;-) I think they'd like a more Beijing experience better than hitting hotel bars... which they could do that anytime they want, no? ;-)

I would take them to the "Bed", because i suppose they would be tired, so they could be Comfortable on their couchs.
Besides, if they come for a little time, they probably would want to see something with the "chinese spirit" like a siheyuan in a hutong. the Bed has this spirit, and they would probably enjoy it ...

I think he'll go local and start out with "Working in the Coal Mine" and "Factory Music". He'll also definitely call for environmentalism in China through Green Classics such as "Nature Boy" and "My Blue Heaven", and finally finish off with the very political "Let Them Talk"... but he'll probably only get to finish half of it.
