How Much Is Too Much? The Air War Rages
We announced the upcoming two shows by the acclaimed French instrumental band Air yesterday and it took about five minutes for Beijingers to express outrage over the RMB550 ticket price (RMB700 at the door).
“550 kuai? Are you serious? That is RIDICULOUS!”

We gotta admit, we raised our eyebrows, too. I mean, Air’s great, Moon Safari is an amazing album, we love The Virgin Suicides, but an Air show live? How great can that be? I mean they play music to nap to! But on the other hand, they are an amazing band. And it’s been over a year since the last amazing band came through (anyone remember Sonic Youth?). Plus, it’s Yugong Yishan putting on the show. If there is any operation in town that deserves to make some money, it’s Gouzi and crew. They are long-suffering supporters of avant-garde music in Beijing and your money will most likely be used to bring in less commercial acts, not pad some fat cat’s bank account.
It’s expensive, sure, but might be worth it. Who’s with me there?

Air in concert is actually pretty awesome. You hear ethereal nuances in their live shows that you can't pick up by just listening to the albums. Worth the money? If you like Air, certainly.

Bringing over a band of this caliber ain't gonna be cheap. Great to see Yugong stepping it up and bringing interesting bands here.
Yeah, a little steep for ticket prices, but considering how much other bands have charged for their Beijing gigs, I have a bit more confidence that this one will be worth it.
I know they've already sold hundreds of tickets, so if you're on the fence, decide quickly.

ahah I hope the room will be empty, they'll deserve it. especially when you know they tend to be close to boring on stage.
