Chinese New Year is traditionally a time for families to get together and celebrate, eat dumplings and set off fireworks at all hours of the day and night. Usually that means the city is dead and there’s nothing to do. But this year, you can tuantuan yuanyuan with your Beijing techno family at Lantern. They’re open every night during Golden Week, but their biggest night is Chinese New Year’s Eve, where they ring in the Year of the Dragon in the only way they know how—with a night you’d be crazy to miss.

For this January 22 party, Lantern will host one of Beijing’s favorite and most important DJs—X.L.F. He has been kicking around the scene for years now, and has been intimately involved in the growth of electronic music in the city. He had a hand in the establishment of Acupuncture Records, the people behind Lantern Club, and helped produce China’s first ever EDM album. He’s also a monster on the decks, of course, and pumps up a party like no other. It’s hard to pin down his style, because he’s a master of all genres as well as of mixing them, having tried and mastered everything from progressive trance to acid funk.

But celebrating with dance isn’t the only thing that Lantern is offering this CNY. With a nod to tradition, and in the spirit of the holiday, they’re passing around the dumpling plate at 3am and setting off fireworks with everyone else in the city. And just like a party at home with family, you won’t have to pay to get in the door.
