Queen of the She-Jays: Beijing DJ QQ talks about the all-girl DJ Spinette party at White Rabbit this Saturday

So how did you get invovled in the Spinette party?
I got a call from White Rabbit, and they asked if I wanted to play this all-girl DJ party. I said yes.

So what kind of music will we hear when you throw on Saturday?
I work with all kinds of music. When I started, I was into trance, then electro. Then I got into tech house and minimal. Now, I spin everything. I just want to make people dance.

Is it difficult to transition from minimal to electro to trance in one set?
I don’t find it difficult it all. If you know what kind of mood you’re trying to give people, you can merge anything.

So why so many guy DJs in the Beijing scene?
It’s an international phenomenon. Maybe the lifestyle suits boys better?

Really? Why?
Well, it’s a late-night lifestyle, full of drinks and … other stuff. Maybe, girls after 30 might want to do something else, but boys feel they can last until 50 … and it can take over a decade to become a great DJ.

So how late do you party?
If it’s a good party, I’ll stay out all night, but ordinarily, I’ll go home early, maybe just 3 or 4 in the morning.
