You may have never heard this DJs name, but if you’ve ever walked through Sanlitun on a Friday night, you’ve heard his music. Bob Sinclar’s Love Generation is an anthem for young party people the world over.

He’s throwing a much-anticipated set on Thursday, May 27 to open Brian Mckenna’s new space Room. This gig ain’t cheap—tickets cost RMB300—but it’s a small price to pay to be included in the Love Generation.

We sat down with Sinclar ahead of his gig to find out why Jamaica is his religion:

CW: What are you working on right now?
Bob Sinclar: As I’m talking to you, I’m working on a track I did with Sean Paul in October in Jamaica. We made an album called Made in Jamaica. It’s the best stuff I did with Sly & Robbie. I’m working on that for summer.

Jamaica has had a profound influence on your music over the last few years.
In 2005, I was in New York looking for a singer, and at the last minute Gary Pine [of the Wailers] came in. He said to find the words and melody, and we’ll see what happens. Then, we created “Love Generation.” I went to Jamaica with him and discovered an amazing country full of emotions, very warm. Now, it’s like a pilgrimage ... For me, my religion is Jamaica.

How do you keep track of your musical ideas on the road?
I buy vinyl everywhere around the world—very old vinyl, classics. I have 35,000 vinyls downstairs in my studio. Who knows? Maybe, I’ll merge some songs with Chinese original instruments one day.
