Charitable Eating: Earthquake Aid

This weekend, stuffing your face can be a form of social action. With so many restaurant-sponsored earthquake charity events going on, eating your fill means another can, as well.

Tonight, Le Petit Gourmand will provide free food and drink from 7 til midnight. Donations are expected purely on a volunteer basis, and all moneys will go to the Red Cross of China. Seems the mood is one of celebration, and to demonstrate support for those suffering in Sichuan. Take it from them, “What you can believe is UNION IS STRENGTH!!!”

All day tomorrow at Chef Too, all profit will be directed to…drum roll, please…the Red Cross of China’s earthquake relief fund. Reservations are recommended (6591 – 2520).

And starting on 6pm on Sunday, the Stone Boat Cafe, in coordination with Red T Music, fellow music promoters and bands, will combine ingesting and imbibing with a marathon jam session for the cause. Thai finger foods will be provided care of Tuk Tuk restaurant. All proceeds will go to the U.S.-based Mercy Corps, who have been working with Chinese partner agencies to channel supplies, funding, medical aid and trauma counseling to quake victims.

Don’t consider these charity events mere drops in a bucket, or a feel-good cause that won’t help anyone. At The Emperor, Yin Bar and Shi Restaurant raised 26,000rmb over four days of fund-raising (all of which went to the Red Cross of China—shocker). We can help many Sichuan survivors. Just need to keep on eating.
