We wrote about the demise of Super Bar Street earlier this year, but the saga of this lane was ongoing until just this past weekend, when Tim's Texas Roadhouse was the last to face the bulldozers.
In protest of what he saw as unfair compensation, proprietor Tim Hilbert had gone to great lengths to protect his property and investment of over $650,000, even hiring a group of strongmen to protect the Roadhouse. According to the Wall Street Journal, when his crew got bored, Tim brought over a punching bag to keep them occupied. Due to these efforts, the Roadhouse was the last establishment in the area to remain standing.
Despite Tim's efforts, the Roadhouse gave up its last breath this weekend, as a group of police and demolition workers surrounded the building and tore it down. Tim is still working to retrieve his property and investment, but when asked if he'd keep up the fight, said "Absolutely, I’m a Texan.”
While Tim's Texas Roadhouse stands no more, Tim's Texas BBQ is alive and well. Tip your hat to Tim and the gang every Tuesday at Beijing's oldest quiz night.
