Indulging for Charity

If you ever needed an excuse to eat donuts, this is your lucky month. From May 15 to 30, for every box of those delicious fried pastries you buy at Bento & Berries, they’ll donate RMB5 to Care for Children, as part of the Kerry Center Hotel’s Dine for Charity promotion. At the hotel’s Chinese restaurant, Horizon, diners will be able to sample a fantastic chef’s specialty menu this month, paired with Shanxi wines, also with a portion of the proceeds donated to Care for Children. While you’re waiting for that you start, before May 15 you can still vote for your very favorite eateries in City Weekend’s Restaurant and Bar Awards. Voting is easy—just go to www.cityweekend.com.cn/bjsurvey. In other news, it looks like good things are coming our way at the end of this month, when restaurants at the Solana complex by Chaoyang Park begin to open. All told, the plaza plans to house around 30 restaurants, including Todai (a buffet restaurant), Banana Leaf and 1001 Nights. Also at the end of the month, Shanghai wine bar and café Enoteca will be open for business in the Jing. We recently spoke with the owners at the restaurant’s construction site and are eagerly anticipating their selection of wines and cheeses, served on a glass-covered terrace at The Place. Read more about Enoteca in this issue’s edition of The Dish. Lastly, fans of borsch and budget vodka have yet another place to relax after a day of shopping on Yabaolu. Russian restaurant The Elephant has opened up yet another branch, this one on Ritan Bei Lu. Perfect for those of us pining away for Moscow nights.
