Where are you from originally? Naples, Italy, the birthplace of pizza.

When did you make your first pizza? I was 12 years old when I started. In my family, we are all pizza chefs.

What’s your favorite kind of pizza? Vesuvio pizza, which is shaped like the volcano and has tomato, ham, mushrooms and mozzarella.

Why did you leave the world’s pizza capital to come to Beijing? I came here for the first time when my friend Gennaro Miele, manager of La Pizza, was doing a demonstration of Neapolitan cakes, which he produces in Italy. I was the chef for that event. It’s really the love of cooking that brings me here.

We hear you won a major pizza cooking contest? I’ve actually attended more than a dozen international Pizza Challenger Cups. By 2007 I had enough experience to win first prize for my 150 cm metro pizza.

What kind of competition were you up against? More than 500 other chefs were competing.

Wow. So can you cook anything other than pizza? Yes, I specialize in cooking all the typical dishes of my city and also international dishes.
