Despite moving only a couple of blocks away, Peter’s Tex-Mex Grill’s new location on Jiangtai Xilu is a vast improvement sure to please fans of this venerable Tex-Mex restaurant. Gone is the cluttered and cramped space—instead, diners are greeted by a spacious yet cozy interior filled with sparkling festive lights.

The new space is lighter, roomier and vastly more comfortable, adorned in the usual bright, warm colors to create homey appeal. The restaurant’s efforts to create a family-friendly environment is evident in the large children’s playroom stuffed with toys, while a changing table for infants and miniature toilet for toddlers have been installed on the second floor.

The thick menu of American-Mexican fare, desserts and beverages remains the same, as do the generous portions. We particularly recommend the deliciously fresh guacamole and chips (¥49), chicken tortilla soup (¥22) and beef fajitas (¥98). Peter’s desserts are also just as satisfying as before. The apple pie (¥28) and chocolate cake (¥28) are our two favorites. We would definitely recommend the hot chocolate (¥25) as well—it’s just the ticket to warm you up on a cold winter’s night.

Service is as prompt and friendly as ever, with helpful, English-speaking staff. The restaurant is also willing to make small adjustments to dishes to accommodate dietary requirements, a flexibility that is refreshing. For those living in Beijing’s north-east quadrant, Peter’s delivers locally for orders over ¥50, and will deliver further afield for those willing to cover the taxi fare. Whether it’s to indulge in pancakes and burritos, or to catch the game with a jug of beer, Peter’s is still one of Lido’s top spots.
