Although well known for its extensive wine cellar, Enoteca is also home to one of the finest pumpkin soups in the city. At ¥20 for a small bowl, Enoteca’s version of this wintertime staple is a delectable combination of pumpkin and creamy flavors. It comes with a generous sprinkle of pine nuts for additional richness and texture. Paired with a glass of one of the restaurant’s many fine wines, this soup makes for a perfect opening act to Enoteca’s cheese fondue (¥180 for two).

Gulou | e.a.t.

Located just east of the north entrance to Nanluoguxiang, this small but cozy restaurant offers a creative twist on your average pumpkin soup by adding a dash of spiced yogurt and basil to the mix. The result is a full flavored soup that manages to taste both light and creamy. Some of the more “spicy” spoonfuls even had us recalling memories of pumpkin pies of holidays past. Savor a bowl for just ¥22. Bring your computer and take advantage of the restaurant’s Wi-Fi while you’re at it.

Sanlitun / Chaoyang Park | La Pizza

Despite all the fancy soup options out there, our favorite is still La Pizza’s carrot and pumpkin soup (¥35). Instead of flooding your taste buds with an assortment of flavors, this Italian eatery keeps things simple by allowing the sweet essence of pumpkin to take center stage. The result is an uncomplicated and light soup that’s as delicious as it is nutritious. We like to pair it with the mozzarella ball salad (¥45) for a satisfying yet healthy meal.
