Wine and Film Pairs Well for October Holiday

If you’re not going home for October holiday, do what we do: spend it on the sofa with a glass of wine, a plate of cheese and plenty of wine-related DVDs. The movie Bottle Shock (2008) takes place at a 1976 wine competition, when Californian wine beat out French wine in a blind tasting. Pair the film with Chateau Montelena Chardonnay 2009 (¥576) from Napa Reserve, a wine that’ll prove the superiority of Californian vino. An even more well known wine movie is Sideways. Californian Pinot Noir sales increased by 20 percent after the film came out in 2004. Watch it with a glass of Saintsbury Caneros Pinot Noir 2007 (¥302), also from Napa Reserve. While it’s not specifically a wine movie, The Godfather is best watched with a plate of pasta and a bottle of Rubicon Estate Cask Cabernet 2007 (¥1,181) from Everwines. The wine isn’t Italian, but it does come from Godfather producer and director Francis Ford Coppola’s Rubicon Estate. See how this powerful red evolves over the three-hour movie.
